Immortals of Aveum

Immortals of Aveum, an EA flop, is said to have cost about $125 million. “A AAA single-player shooter in today’s market was a truly awful idea,” adds the former developer. The amount of money EA spent on their single-player first-person shooter Immortals of Aveum, which received mixed reviews and was a commercial failure, is revealed in a recent report.

Immortals of Aveum debuted in August 2023, during one of the busiest game release years ever, along with the release of Diablo 4, Starfield, and Baldur’s Gate 3. However, I felt Ascendant Studios’ “Call of Duty with magic” experiment was intriguing enough and should have received more attention. In the end, it fell short of EA’s expectations, and the studio laid off nearly 45 percent of its staff soon after the game’s launch.

In August 2023, Immortals of Aveum made its debut alongside Diablo 4, Starfield, and Baldur’s Gate 3, in one of the busiest game release years ever. That being said, I thought Ascendant Studios’ “Call of Duty with magic” experiment was sufficiently intriguing to merit further discussion. Ultimately, it did not live up to EA’s expectations, and shortly after the game’s release, the studio let go of almost half of its employees.

AAA Single Player Shooter:

Immortals were “muchly overscored for a studio’s debut project,” according to the former employee. The production cost was approximately $445 million, and EA, I believe, paid $40 million for marketing and distribution. Even so, there were some extremely talented individuals on the development team. Trying to make a AAA single-player shooter in the current market was a really poor choice. especially considering that it tried to use Unreal Engine 5 and was a new IP. Ultimately, a laborious and repetitive campaign was started.

Whatever the reason behind the demise of Aveum’s immortals. It’s a bad thing because it will deter big studios from creating the kind of expensive, single-player. Simple action games that we are seeing fewer and fewer of these days. Since they worsen the situation, redundancies that negatively affect eager developers are also undesirable.

Even though Immortals’ conventional strategy had merit. IGN was informed by another unnamed Ascendant employee that the game was not well received. It doesn’t take 400 hours to finish, nor is it a sequel or remake. Furthermore, it does not contain any pointless open-world grinding or microtransactions. With a 74 on OpenCritic and a Mostly Positive on Steam, the reviews were largely positive. Even though some people weren’t big fans. It was never bought by anyone.
